Welcome to our new weekly feature for premium subscribers, where we have a really quick chat with a comedian you might have come across in LMAOnaise before. We want you to get to know the people whose shows we recommend a little better, so we’ve had them answer five of the most pressing questions in culture at the moment.
This Friday feature will only be open to all subscribers for a little while, so upgrade if you want to get to know even more comedians!
If you met yourself as a 90 year old, what is the one thing you’d tell them about your life right now?
I hope I’m not knocking about for that long, but I’d tell her – and she wouldn’t believe it – that you took the path of most resistance for some strange reason.
If you went to Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, what confection would be your downfall and how?
The one that tastes like a whole meal would surely end my life. I’d make him do a custom one like wedding abula and the machine would malfunction and blow the whole place up – killing everyone instantly.
What historical figure would be the best at stand-up?
Noah of Noah’s ark would go clear I reckon. Tales from the ark, surviving apocalypse, animal kingdom politics – absolute field day!
Pro or against dogs having surnames?
I’m pro dogs having surnames because it clearly brings joy to those committed to dog ownership. I think it’s twee, but also a useful identifier for the dog owners themselves. Perhaps there are two types of dog owners: the ones with mononymous dogs and the dog owners who want to feel something – desperately clinging on to reasons to keep going.Â
What should be an Olympic sport but isn’t?
Jumping to conclusions, actually takes a lot of discipline and stamina, the right amount of delusion that all athletes suffer from and tenacity.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Ayoade Bamgboye is the moment. She’s a really exciting new stand-up and comedy writer who is making her debut at Edinburgh Fringe in 2025. Her Channel4 Comedy Playground short, Rise and Shine with Channel 9, was produced by A24 which is so chic. Watch it here:
Catch her WIP at the Bill Murray on Monday Nov 25th and at Leicester Comedy Festival on Feb 20th.
