Look for the Woman, Glasgow Comedy Festival and an important birthday
Comedy shows to see this week :)

Hello!
Spring has sprung, it is officially gorgeous, at least where I am. I have mainly positive feelings about this time of year, the primary reason being – of course – my birthday (which is this weekend, on International Women’s Day, feel free to wish me as many happy returns as you like). Other reasons include: lambs, daffodils, being awoken by the sunlight and not my alarm, pancake, the sound of birds, people having no reason to complain about the weather…
The one thing that I find stressful about the sun being out consistently for the first time in months is the alarming revelation of my ghostly complexion. When the atmos is physically dark and emotionally dank, it’s not quite so obvious, but I went to pick up my new glasses today (I was forced to re-choose these ones due to the pair I actually wanted and initially bought being too big for my tiny, dainty, minuscule face) and nearly shrieked at myself. I think I might become someone who gets spray tans. Any insight into this will be much appreciated.
This is the last entire winter I am going to spend in the UK. I understand that people who go abroad to sunnier climes during the winter months feel better and happier and generally more at ease. That sounds so nice, I think.
Anyway, before the comedy shows, here’s a reminder that the workshops Lily Marriott and I are doing together are REALLY SOON! March 28th and April 9th. And you have to book onto them now!
Finally, to celebrate International Women’s Day and my birthday, this week I have purely and genuinely accidentally not recommended a single show by a man. I really didn’t do it on purpose, but I like that it happened!
Here’s some comedy!
Comedy shows to see!
Look for the Woman Festival
Throughout March
Rosemary Branch Theatre, Islington; Tickets and full programme here
It’s Women’s History Month, didn’t you know? The Rosemary Branch has packed the entire month full of comedy shows by women, which is brilliant. Some familiar names doing their work-in-progress shows, such as Lorna Rose Treen (March 7th), Tamsyn Kelly (March 18th) and Ayoade Bamgboye (March 26th). There are also a bunch of funny plays and performances like The Best Women I Know, which sees a group of writers, comedians, poets and theatre-makers celebrating the women in their lives (March 16th).
Glasgow International Comedy Festival
March 12-30th
Venues across Glasgow; Tickets and full programme here
Glasgow International Comedy Festival is back and there are so many great shows across the second half of this month. It’s a brilliant line-up of shows, combining returning shows and new work. If I were going, I’d be seeing these: Freddie Hayes: The Magic Lady (March 12th), Micky Overman: Hold On (March 13th), Cerys Bradley’s Queer Tales for Autistic Folks (March 14th), Best In Class (March 14th), Laura Quinn Goh: You, Me, and Your Correctional Officer (March 14th), Grace Mulvey: Did you hear we are all going to die? (March 15th), Katie Mitchell: Spine Hygiene (March 15th), Stephanie Bradshaw: Big Fish (March 16th), Amelia Bayler: Broken Record (March 16th), Erin McKinnie: Deep Heat (March 16th), Harriet Dyer: HONK (March 18th) and Eleanor Morton (March 20th).
I might even add in some men’s shows when I update this list next week, if I feel like it. We’ll see.
Fashion Loves Comedy
March 7th, 9th & 10th
The Bedford, Balham; Tickets here
This weekend, I went to Vogue: Inventing the Runway at the Lightbox in Kings Cross and remembered that I actually love fashion. Now, the best collision of fashion and comedy to ever happen is back at the Bedford in Balham with three nights raising money for Choose Love. Over the three nights, hosted by Natalie Cassidy, Gail Porter and Edith Bowman, you can see the most wonderful comedians perform comedy and strut their stuff in amazing clothes. Catch Rosie Jones, Amy Matthews, Lachlan Werner, Su Mi, Micky Overman, Sikisa, Lorna Rose-Treen and so, so many more on the runway.
Amy Mason / Jen Ives WIPs
March 5th, 7:30pm
The Divine, Hackney; Tickets here
It’s a classic twofer from a pair of excellent comedians! Amy Mason and Jen Ives are getting shows ready for the Fringe and you can see their works-in-progress together. Amy’s No Thanks is all about the time she got hacked, lost her social media accounts and started thinking about her online life (and got sent some free sex toys from the hackers!!), while Jen’s Toilet Girl is an hour entirely about toilets, maybe some sinks too. Extra long-term subscribers will remember Jen from when she smashed it at that one LMAOnaise live show we did during Covid. What a time that was!
Kemah Bob: Miss Fortunate
March 6-8th, 7:15pm
Soho Theatre; Tickets here
You might say: wow, ok, you’ve recommended this show a lot. And my answer to that would be: yes I have and I will keep doing it simply because I have taste and this is an incredible show. Kemah Bob’s Miss Fortunate is one of the wildest and most thrillingly performed stories I’ve seen recounted on stage, as she tells the story of her Eat Pray Love trip to Thailand in a state of bipolar mania. We know that all comedy is subjective, however, this is the exception: an objectively great comedy show. Am I getting through to you?
