Hello!
I started the day with a dreamy walk around Beckenham Hill Park, a place I have never been! It was so sunny, I got most of my steps in before lunchtime and now I’m having to write against the clock to get this out before the café I’m in shuts…As is my journalist way, the immediate deadline is actually working for me. So weird how much I need the pressure to get stuff done.
Ok, now some exciting news! I’m super happy to announce that we are officially a media partner for a brand new award: the Golden Lobes podcast awards!

Comedy shows to see!
Hook Up Culture
Feb 26th, 7:30pm
The Finsbury, London; Tickets here
This will be my first time at monthly mixed bill cabaret night Hook Up Culture. Combining comedy, live music, poetry and an open mic (we don’t usually recommend open mic nights but, from what I’ve seen of previous nights on Instagram, this one is special), this night is one huge date – but only the good kind. Hosted by Laila Woozeer, you’ll also find Kate Cheka, Bel Comeau, Aruhan Galieva, John-Luke Roberts, Grace Jarvis, Pravanya Pillay and Rosie Yadid on the bill. If that doesn’t make you want to go, I don’t know what will!
A Night of Drama
Feb 28th, 9pm
Free Association, London; Tickets here
Do you love drama? Of course you do, you subscribe to this newsletter, the most dramatic comedy newsletter of them all. If you love theatre, but hate how you’re supposed to behave in the theatre, A Night of Drama is for you. Director Jack Grossman will direct a company of clowns in a melodrama right before your eyes, featuring Alex Franklin, Lil Wenker, Chris East, Ben Goldsmith, Levi Meltzer, Jessica Barton, Will Spence and Zoe Wohlfield. You’re permitted to boo.
Celya AB: Of All People
Feb 22nd, 5:30pm
Leicester Comedy Festival; Tickets here
God, Celya is just extremely funny, isn’t she? I was reminded of just how much while listening to the latest episode of Pappy’s Flatshare Slamdown, on which she featured alongside Jin Hao Li (the combo of the two made it one of the best eps in a while – you should listen). Her latest show is coming to Leicester Comedy Festival as part of the tour she’s currently on. Celya is really one of the best stand-ups in the UK right now.
Molly McGuinness: Slob
Feb 18th, 9:30pm
The Glitch, London; Tickets here
Molly McGuinness is one of my stand-up ones to watch, and has been for a little while actually. I was so excited when she agreed to write for the newspaper and her lonely hearts page turned out to be one of my favourite features (you can still get that here by the way). Her new show is about the slob life, being riddled with guilt in a society that celebrates hustle and what happened when a life-threatening illness forced her into a slob state (coma) whether she wanted to or not!
Alice Cockayne: WIP
Feb 22nd, 9pm
Pleasance Theatre, London; Tickets here
Alice Cockayne did one of my favourite shows at the Fringe in 2023 – I wasn’t even supposed to review it, I just turned up because it was recommended to me and I loved it so much that I felt like I had to write about it (I think this is a journalistic faux pas but whatever). I Showered Before I Came showed us heightened, clowned-up versions of the everyday, e.g. a woman from the office called Susan, coupled with superb physical comedy and a huge amount of wigs. Alice’s WIP promises just many wigs, and something you’ll not see anywhere else.
Dylan Adler
Feb 23rd, 7pm
The Bill Murray, Tickets here!
We met American comedian Dylan Adler in Friday’s newsletter but now’s your chance to see him IRL, for one night only. Dylan is a stand-up, actor and musical maestro with one of the best Lin Manuel Miranda impressions on the planet. He also did one backflip at Universal Studios (begging the question do all LA comedians do one backflip??) but should be best know for his hilarious storytelling and musical comedy.
Upgrade your subscription for £5 a month (or less if you get an annual subscription!): you’ll get more live show, telly and podcast recommendations, funny vids, and the extra ‘Meet the Comedian’ Friday newsletters! You’ll also get news, updates and secrets…
